Claude Cowork has finally launched on mobile and web
Background tasks no longer stop when you close your laptop or step away from your desk. Previously, Cowork was tied to the desktop app, meaning any task you started would pause the moment your device went offline. That limitation is now gone, and the tool works much more like a true remote assistant that keeps running independently of whether you’re actually sitting at your computer.
Here’s how the process works now
Start a task on your PC and pick up the finished result from your phone.
A closed laptop no longer halts the process — Claude keeps working on scheduled tasks in the cloud, so something like a report due at 6 a.m. can run and finish overnight without your device needing to be on.
If the AI needs your approval, a notification will land directly on your phone. No action is finalized without your sign-off, so you always stay in control of anything that gets sent or published.
On the web, Cowork can be launched directly from the claude.ai homepage, while on mobile it’s accessible from the sidebar in the iOS and Android apps. The beta launch begins in the coming weeks for Max subscribers, with other subscription tiers gaining access later. To mark the rollout, usage limits for Cowork are doubled through August 5, giving users extra room to try out larger and more complex tasks.
A background agent that stops the moment you close your laptop was never a true background agent — it was a foreground task with a longer leash. Moving execution into the cloud turns it into something closer to an actual assistant you can hand a task to and walk away from.
