ICE Barcelona 2027 launches a dedicated zone for indie game studios
ICE Barcelona 2027 is introducing an Indie Game Zone for small studios inside a new Technology and Innovation hall, with modular stands starting at €12,500 and eligibility rules that shut out subsidiaries of major providers.
What €12,500 buys
ICE Barcelona 2027 is adding a section built specifically for small studios, called the Indie Game Zone, inside a new Technology and Innovation hall. According to iGaming Business, modular pods in the zone start at €12,500, and that price covers a branded cabinet, a TV display, logo placement, stools, a power socket, and a listing with a profile page on ICE’s own site. Exhibitors also get included in guided tours around the show floor and get promotional placement through the Slots News newsletter, plus a spot for three games in ICE’s Indie Games Showcase campaign.
The eligibility rules are narrow by design. Studios can apply only if they’ve operated for 10 years or less, and the zone explicitly excludes subsidiaries of established casino game providers along with any studio that already holds its own stand at ICE or at iGB Live, the same organizer’s other major event. World Gaming’s group managing director, Alex Pratt, framed the whole section around discovery rather than just floor space, saying the industry’s next big thing usually comes from a team nobody’s heard of yet, and that ICE should be where operators find them first rather than after they’ve already broken through elsewhere.
A fixed-price lane inside a much bigger show
The show itself runs January 18 to 20, 2027 at Fira Barcelona Gran Via, part of a wider World Gaming Week that runs through January 21. It sits inside a brand-new 17,000-square-metre Hall 7 built for technology, data, and fintech companies, and organizers are projecting more than 600 exhibitors for the edition overall. Carving out a fixed-price, rules-based lane for indie developers inside that much bigger show is a specific bet: that a studio too small to justify a standard stand still has something worth an operator’s attention, provided someone builds the shelf space for it.
“A €12,500 pod with a profile page isn’t glamorous, but it’s the difference between being discoverable and being invisible at a show with 600 exhibitors.”
